Playoff football can bring out the best in some, but also the worst in others.
On Saturday in Detroit, emotions boiled over for a group of fans and ended with one man getting his head stomped on in a shocking incident.
The attack occurred at Ford Field during the Lions divisional round playoff matchup against the Washington Commanders.
One man — a 49ers fan, according to one cameraperson who filmed the beatdown – allegedly hit a woman in the crowd and was verbally abusive to many around him, egging on several fans in his section.
“Maybe don’t disrespect women & then sucker punch someone and this wouldn’t happen,” the original post by X user @zelly_bean read.
In the video, which has been shared on several accounts and viewed more than 4 million times, the man can be seen attempting to shield his face and hold on to a railing on the staircase as a number of individuals wearing Lions jerseys wail on him with feet and fists.

“Stop talking s*** to women!” someone off camera can be heard yelling as stadium security try to break up the melee.
“You got knocked the f*** out! You got knocked out like it’s Friday,” another can be heard saying, referencing the 1995 Ice Cube film.
In a separate video, which appears to have been captured in the moments leading up to the brawl, the man who would be knocked out can be seen pointing at and calling out Lions fans seated near him.
“This guy was asking for it,” reads the caption by X user @amann1616.
The user also gave a more detailed account of what led up to the fight, saying the man was being escorted out by security when things escalated.
“He was being escorted out by security and swung a punch at a female, hit a guy instead and then the fight ensued,” @amann1616 wrote.
“Had he just walked out this never would have happened.”
DailyMail.com reported that police made no arrests during the game.
While the Lions fans had some supporters online, others were quick to decry the need for such violence.
“Moral is, don’t go to Detroit,” one user replied.
“Attempted murder,” another user simply wrote.
“The only moral of the story here is that the Lions are really coming for Philly in terms of (being the) worst fan base in the league,” a user replied, referencing another fan-related incident that took place in Philadelphia involving an Eagles fan.
Last week, a video was posted online of an Eagles fan becoming verbally abusive to a female Packers supporter during their wild-card matchup at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.
In the video posted by Packers fan Alexander Basara, Ryan Caldwell is seen repeatedly insulting Basara’s fiancee, Ally Keller.
“What it’s like going to Philly just trying to root for your team …” Basara captioned the post.
“Unprovoked, uncalled for. Packers twitter, help me out and find this guy … this is not okay.
“I hate that my fiance had this happen simply cheering for her team.”
Basara can be heard responding to the fan, telling the man wearing a green Eagles jacket to not call his Keller vulgar names.
“She’s an ugly, dumb c***,” the Eagles fan replies. “You gonna do anything? Shut the f*** up and watch the game.”
Caldwell apologized to Keller and several others in a statement later in the week, acknowledging that things got a bit out of hand, but the damage had been done.
Caldwell was banned from attending Eagles games in the future and fired from his job at BCT Partners, a management consulting firm focused on diversity, equity and inclusion.
