The Ruby is waiting for you.
One of Edmonton’s newest lottery homes — January was a busy month with multiple lottery home launches — this one from Concept Homes, is a striking offering honouring STARS 40th anniversary and the launch of the 32nd annual edition of the STARS lottery.
This 2,442-square-foot home, actually 3,251 of developed square footage with the finished basement included, pulls out all the stops with an emphasis on luxury, yet it’s done in a practical manner to enhance one’s living experience.
Featuring a number of show-stopping finishes, including a dazzling 25-foot-plus three-storey chandelier and eye-catching wood ceiling finishes in the great and dining rooms, this home valued at $1,079,400 is located in the north Edmonton community of the Village at Griesbach.
“We named this year’s STARS home the Ruby,” said Dave Hinteregger, Concept’s vice-president. “That was to commemorate STARS’ 40th anniversary of care in the air. It is an honour for us to give back to such a great cause; they provide such a life-changing service to those when they most need it.”
The basics of this home — though little if anything of this home can be described as basic — are that it includes four bedrooms (three on the upper floor; one in the finished basement) and 3? bathrooms, with 1,134 sq. ft. on the main floor, 1,308 sq. ft. on the upper level and 809 sq. ft. in the finished lower level.
But it’s the light that comes in from the stairwell on this corner lot, with its three sets of three windows, and floods the home with brightness that might well capture your attention. If that’s not enough, the stairwell is highlighted by a custom gold and crystal three-tiered chandelier, which is suspended from what was once just a large, plain old satellite dish. Though that dish now sports a flowing modern abstract design done by local artist Kevin Wilson.
The main floor flows with its open concept but it’s the ceiling features that not only add a luxurious feel, they also bring an unexpected warmth to the home. Above the dining room portion of the main floor are three long, narrow wooden barreled arched ceiling segments. Next to them, there is a contrasting wood ceiling feature that takes on a pergola-like feel that is suspended above the great room. Done in butcher block, these suspended pieces of wood also hide an intriguing design: a line that mirrors the result of an electrocardiogram.
“When looking at the new STARS logo, I saw they implemented an ECG heartbeat onto the logo,” said Hinteregger. “When we were thinking up the ceiling detail design, I thought to bring the ECG effect into it as a surprise hidden feature you need to look for.”
In features you don’t need to look for, the waterfall island countertop in the kitchen is done in Dekton’s Morpheus, which has a soft cream base and a mix of golden and blue tones, the primary bedroom on the second floor includes a feature wall with two niches behind the headboard, and the ensuite is framed by an etched glass curtain wall.
Then, on the lower level, there’s an entertainment zone and wet bar, with a bit of a Hockey Night in Canada feel.
“We love to cheer on and support our local team, the Oilers, but wanted to pay homage to all the Canadian teams in the NHL,” said Hinteregger of the backlit team logos found there.
This marks the 17th year Concept has done the Edmonton STARS lottery home, one of the three grand prize homes available in this year’s lottery. The other dream home prizes are The Encore in Calgary in West Springs, a two-storey modern cottage with 2,973 developed square feet valued at $1.5 million from Trico Homes, and The Kallyn Jeffrey in Lethbridge, a modern take on Art Deco that comes in at $989,900 from Van Arbor Homes and is The Crossings neighbourhood; it’s 2,423 sq. ft.
“For 40 meaningful years, STARS has been dedicated to providing critical care and hope on the worst day in someone’s life,” said Dr. John Froh, incoming president and CEO, STARS. “The lottery is our biggest fundraiser of the year and every ticket purchased ensures we can continue saving the lives of Albertans for years to come.”
