Even though this year’s award’s race is just leaving the gate, there are some early winners.
Jayman Built, which showed strong in residential housing award competitions last year, is starting off 2025 by taking the Environmental Recognition award in Edmonton’s annual Awards of Excellence in Housing — being the sole finalist in the Single Family Large Volume Home Builder category, it wins the award.
Joining Jayman in the winners’ circle is the Rohit Group of Companies for its Cali Townhome in Ethereal Zen, which as the only finalist, wins for Best Multi-Family Under $300,000.
Meanwhile, the 2025 finalist list reveals that three Edmonton-based builders, and in some cases also developers, are the early front runners.
Finalists nominations, recently released by BILD Edmonton Metro, shows Cantiro in front with 27 finalist spots, Streetside Developments with 24 and Rohit Group of Companies with 21. Not too far behind are Jayman with 14, Pacesetter Homes with 13 and Kanvi Homes with 12.
Diamond Renovations had 11 with Ackard Contractors and Brookfield Residential at 10 each. Another 50-plus builders, developers, suppliers and general members received finalist spots as well, varying from one to seven placements each.
“We are pleased to reveal the finalists for the Awards of Excellence,” said BILD Edmonton Metro CEO Kalen Anderson. “Our industry and members positively contribute to our region through the communities they shape and the homes they build. We are very excited to celebrate their achievements.”
Best Communities & More
Nine Edmonton-area neighbourhoods are looking to become known as one of the region’s best places to live.
Alces from Cantiro, Ardrossan (in Strathcona County) from Strata Development, Cambrian (Sherwood Park) and Cherot (St. Albert; and both from Rohit), and Hearthstone (Sherwood Park) from Mattamy Homes are all vying for the top spot in the Best New Community category. Last year, Cambrian took the award.
For Best Community, judges will select from Ardrossan, Chappelle Gardens or The Orchards (these two from Brookfield Residential), Southfork (Leduc) from Tamani Communities (now Jayman Living) or the Village at Griesbach from Canada Lands Co. Chappelle Gardens was the winner in 2024.
Rounding out the development awards segment, the communities of Cambrian and Cherot, Marquis and Rivers Edge (both from Qualico Communities) and Southfork are all vying for a win for the Best Show Home Parade.
As for the Edmonton area’s best apartment options, Edge at Larch Park, from Carrington Communities, and Aloft Skyview and West Secord, both from StreeStide, are the finalists for Best Apartment Building.
The region’s Best New Multi-Family Rental Project sees Edison in the Park, from Carrington, Eleanor from Maclab Development Group, Laurent Student Housing Development (also from Maclab), Legacy at Griesbach from Deveraux Developments and The Switch from StreetSide seeking that honour.
Finalists for the Industry Leadership Award are Cantiro, Coventry Homes, Durabuilt Windows & Doors, Jayman and Rohit.
BILD’s First
This year’s awards event will be the first one falling under the BILD Edmonton Metro banner.
“While these awards have a long and impressive legacy in the Edmonton region, we do have a new brand to show off, a new team to introduce, and new awards to give,” said Anderson. “As a newer organization, based on the amalgamation of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association-Edmonton Region and the Urban Development Institute in May 2024, it really is a pivotal time for us.
“We’re primarily excited to showcase our members and their work over the past year — especially our new members and community partners who will get to experience this event for the first time and see what working with us is really like. The Awards of Excellence are not just about showing our individual work in the industry, but also showing how we can all work together.”
For this year, BILD said a record-breaking number of submissions were received, resulting in 306 finalists across 60 categories. BILD also said it is expecting 1,500 people to attend this year’s event, to be held on March 15 — the most attendees the awards have had in a number of years.
For 2025, the awards show will have a Kentucky Derby theme.
“Our commitment to celebrating industry excellence remains as strong as ever,” added Anderson. “This event is a great way to launch the new BILD brand to membership and the public and showcase the great work of previous CHBA and UDI members. Our industry greatly values the Awards of Excellence and looks forward to hosting this important and impactful gala under the banner of BILD Edmonton Metro. We’re all working towards the same goals, and this event is proof of that.”
