Ice Grooves: This is very cool — literally — with regular dedicated music programming and dance instruction kicking off this weekend on the rink in front of Edmonton’s city hall!

This weekend from 6-9 p.m., it’s DJ Funkasaurus on Friday and DJ Cyncron on Saturday.
Sunday, Swing ‘n Skate returns from 1-4 p.m. with The Trocadero Orchestra with dance instruction from Julie Kiraly. Next Sunday, it’s Melafrique, and then on Feb. 2 is The Diamond Band, with country swing dance instruction. And, on Feb. 9, Ben Sures will be singing and playing guitar.

Bonus: There are also free skating lessons from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday — the Edmonton Arts Council really wants you on that ice!

YungLink: Having hilariously just released a Christmas song, wall-of-sound yet melodic local metalcore band YungLink is releasing its second album (aptly named YungLink II) Friday night at that beautiful beat box The Aviary.
Playing the new one front to back plus repertoire classics with that relentless soaring anime vibe, this cat-friendly outfit will be warmed up by Fashionably Sick and Wayfinder.
Bring earplugs and an optional bike helmet — it’s due to be a ripper!

All We Imagine as Light (2024): First-time director Payal Kapadia’s Grand Prix winner at Cannes, this story follows two Malayali nurses living together in Mumbai dealing with life and a mysteriously gifted rice cooker.
Acclaimed for its authenticity as it navigates romantic concerns (up to the level of fighting off a skyscraper developer), loveless arranged marriages and religion-crossing affairs are all awhirl in a captivating portrait of India in the now, and, of course, the patriarchy that reliably continues to suffocate the planet.
