Encampment in Fulton Creek had generators, power tools: police

A homeless encampment cleared near Fulton Creek this week contained generators and multiple power tools, police say.

Police and park rangers discovered the encampment near Fulton Creek in a southeast industrial area Monday and began dismantling it, an Edmonton Police Service spokesperson said in an email. The site included a camp with “multiple structures” made from building materials and powered by portable generators.

While searching the camp, police found:

• pieces of dismantled electric vehicle charging outlets
• power tools
• an industrial stripping machine
• a “large” amount of copper wiring
• safety gloves
• a welding kit

Police also found two stolen bikes that were returned to their owners. A man and two women — one of whom had nine outstanding warrants — were arrested and charged with mischief over $5,000.

Those living in the encampment were offered access to services and support, which they “refused,” the EPS spokesperson said.
